Christantus Uche Ignites Dominant Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Despite embarking on their first-ever continental adventure, Oliver Glasner's side are learning very quickly. Without key players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.

A further victory in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the last 16, particularly after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity

This match offered a platform for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, scoring for the second game in succession.

A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were no match even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.

In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.

Midfielder Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the protests.

The formerArsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.

Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.

Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.

Esse was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.

A solitary worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
